The Albert Watson Memorial Hut was built by Lothians DA volunteers in 1947 has remained in continual use by cyclists, outdoor enthusiasts, scouts and other interest groups.
Roof replacement
A very well supported pledge campaign means that we now have the funds to replace the roof
Colin Grevett a registered builder together with a small team of volunteers are providing a dependable roof for at least the next thirty years.
Thirty two seperate pledges totalling £3000 were received in just seven days, replacement is planned for September 2026, leaving this historic building secure against winter rain and gales.

“My dad, Robert Jeffrey, was one of the guys that originally built the hut; along with several other ‘well kent’ cycling enthusiasts. Plus, I helped with the current replacement, many moons ago!
It was also a place of many happy memories when we stayed there for our holidays; cycling to Moffat for an ice cream, climbing the hills and building dams in the river. Often we arrived by bus, although being a very poor traveller, that was not one of my best memories!!
We cannot let this wonderful legacy crumble before our eyes. It will shelter and nurture many, many people for a long time yet. As well as make new memories for all those that visit it.”
